FOOD AS MEDICINE: Gaia as apothecary
We are literally what we eat. Health science research is discovering that healthy eating alone can prevent or reverse a multitude of disease processes. This class lays out the dietary principles that define a healthy human diet, reviews nutrients essential for human health, therapeutic diets, methods of food preparation used through out the world to reverse disease and illness, the ecology and energy of food, understanding how food affects genetic expression and how to identify and deal with food allergies, sensitivities and intolerances.

HEAL YOUR GUT: Creating healthy body ecology
A well functioning gut is essential to good health. The gut has been likened to the soil out of which humans are nourished and grow. In addition to managing digestion and absorption of nutrients it is a complex ecological system with substantial immune, neurological, detoxification and endocrine function. As such, an injured or compromised gastro-intestinal system can be the cause of numerous diseases and health problems. This class discusses common illnesses and diseases originating from GI injury and GI function and repair in detail.

DETOXIFICATION: Internal Cleansing
This session addresses toxic exposures and practices in today’s fast paced, chemical laden world that are significantly compromising health. Understanding where exposures are, the organs and processes of detoxification and the practices and therapies that support them, is a skill of necessity for health in the 21st century. We discuss general daily practices as well as specific programs and therapeutic regimens for reducing toxic load and enabling health and healing.

THE HEALTH for LIFE KITCHEN: Living on live foods
This is a two part class intended to impart those culinary skills and practices of growing and preparing live foods that add significant quality and nutrients to our diets. Part I introduces the growing and preparation of grass juice, vegetable juicing, sprouting, and preparation of nut milks, sprout batters and cheeses. Part II will introduce fermentation of vegetables, milks and sprouts and demonstrates the preparation of raw foods using various appliances that enable tremendous flexibility and variety in live food preparation. JOURNEY TO MINDFULNESS: Overcoming stress
The NIH (National Institutes of Health) reports that 80% of all disease is the result of chronic stress. This session builds your understanding of what stress is, how it manifests in the body, the organs most affected by it and how we can measure and reduce it. We will review stress reduction techniques such as increasing heart rate variability with breath work, meditation, exercise, affirmations and creative visualization, herbs and nutrients used to help the body manage stress more effectively and specific energy practices that move stress out of the body.

ENERGY MEDICINE: Ancient knowing meets modern science
This session begins by introducing you to quantum physics and its relationship to energy medicine. Quantum theory and research have given scientific credibility to what the ancients knew intuitively and experientially. We discuss how practices such as acupuncture, homeopathy, ayreuvedic, distance, intuitive, spiritual, sound and hands on healing work. We will discuss human energy anatomy, why energy practices are a vital part of a health affirming life and those practices you can develop on your own to create a strong and vibrant energy body.

ENERGY PRACTICES FOR EVERYDAY LIFE
Building on the previous session, this class is a hand’s on session intended to enable you to build energy healing into your everyday life. We will explore kinesiology, dowsing, and the use of oracles as ways of understanding and working with our intuitive wisdom.

9 Days in the Beautiful Rainforests of Southern Costa Rica

Join Dr. Lorraine Hurley and hosts Michael Cranford and Rebecca Amelia in the rainforest of Costa Rica for a self-healing health retreat that could change your life.

Day 2 Intro and Stress

This session builds your understanding of what stress is, how it manifests, what organ systems and processes are affected and how we can measure and attenuate it. We will review stress reduction techniques such as heart rate variability, quantum biofeedback, breath and meditation work. We’ll look at various herbs and nutrients that help to alleviate some of the consequences of stress.

Day 3 Food as Medicine

This class lays out the dietary principles that define a healthy human diet and reviews the nutrients essential for human health. We cover therapeutic diets and methods of food preparation used throughout the world to recover from disease and illness. We touch on the ecology and energy of food, understanding how food affects genetic expression, and how to identify and deal with food allergies, sensitivities and intolerances. We also discuss the amazing health benefits and energetic properties of water and both home based and laboratory testing that can be used for developing safe and effective health affirming diets.

Day 4 - Heal Your Gut or The Body Ecology

Quantum theory and research have given scientific credibility to what the ancients knew intuitively and experientially. We will discuss how and why energy practices are a vital part of a health affirming life.

Day 6 - Ancient Energy Practices for Everyday Modern Life
Building on the previous sessions, this class is a hands on demonstration and practice session. We will begin learning practices such as kinesiology and dowsing which will enable you to build energy healing into your everyday life. We will also do a live demonstration of quantum biofeedback and heart rate variability monitoring. We will demonstrate how to use pH, pulse, basal body temperature and other measures of the body’s bio-terrain to monitor your health status.

Day 7 - Detoxification
This session addresses toxic exposures and practices in today’s fast paced, chemical laden world. Many are significantly compromising planetary and human health. Understanding the organs and processes of detoxification and the practices and therapies that support them is a skill of necessity if you wish to maintain or recover your health. We discuss general daily practices as well as specific programs and therapeutic regimens for reducing toxic load and enabling health and healing.

Day 8 - Putting it All Together
We've learned a lot and covered a lot of ground. This session provides us with the opportunity to review previous sessions and what a comprehensive program of health recovery will actually look like once you get home. We will go over logistics and any specifics you may need clarification on.

Day 9 - Last day before departure—Overnight at B&B

There is plenty of time for exploring the area, going to beaches & playing. Included in this package is a wonderful tour which whisks you across the Golfo Dulce by boat to a wild life refuge where you can have baby monkeys playing in your lap, scarlet macaws cackling an arms length away and all kinds of wildlife being rehabilitated! Other tours are included in package & plenty of optional tours as well. Swim with the dolphins, climb majestic rainforest trees with experienced guides, waterfall hikes, spas nearby.
